thanks for the sympathy. i have just now elevated it at your suggestion, any other tips are welcome. i'm not too sure what i'm supposed to do for it ; a friend told me to apply an anti-inflammatory gel or cream (i happened to have some, so i did that) and wrap it with a bandage to limit the swelling, which i don't have, but i have an ankle protector which covers part of the foot, so i put that on (it's not actually the ankle i hurt, it's the side of the foot. i've got a lovely big lump about the size of a quail egg, which, according to my friend, will turn all sorts of colours in the next few days). my friend told me it will take several weeks to get better even if i *do* stay off it, so god knows i will probably be limping around for a couple of months, at least.
it happened really stupidly, as most accidents do. i came out of a lit building into a dark courtyard, i was in a hurry and didn't pay enough attention where i was going, and didn't notice there was a step. so i put my foot halfway on it, and it slid off and twisted, and i fell down. then i had to walk to the métro, and go through all the corridors and stairs in there, and then walk from the métro station to where i was meeting a friend for a drink (a walk which was unfortunately somewhat longer than it needed to have been, because the place we had planned to go was crowded, and i really wanted to sit down for obvious reasons, so we had to walk somewhere else...), and then walk from the bar to home (and up 5 farking flights of stairs).
