The Kindle DX is a very poor choice for PDF. Yes, it will display PDFs, but that's all it does - display them. No table of contents, no hyperlinks, no searching, no annotation, no dictionary lookup; no anything, really.
Gwyn is right - the iRex DR1000 is a much, much better choice (but at a price). There should be an explosion in larger-screen devices coming out in the next year, so it may be better to wait a while.
