I'll quite happily read bog-standard Times New Roman, left-aligned, no drop caps, a double line-break to indicate a new paragraph. I don't think my reading experience is degraded any by it. Agreed, and I thought similarly. I think the previous comment is getting perilously close to that slippery typesetting-as-art slope.
