Yeah, you can buy a dvd player for $20 now, but it wasn't always that way. The first generation dvd player I bought was around $700 and the features were very basic compared to what today's players can do.

eBook readers are still in their infancy and are a niche market. Prices will probably come down over time as the technology matures and the market grows.
