A holiday because 1st of November is usually a holiday, but this year it was a Sunday, so local administrations were allowed to "move" it to the following Monday (today). Not everywhere in Spain (where I am) is a holiday, but it is in my region. You'll probably come here faster if I tell you that Christmas holidays (for schools, at least) go from ~21st December to ~8 January
Of course, lots of people are unemployed and have much longer holidays.
