Welcome to MobileRead, Jim.

The Kindle is very easy to read on, and I do not notice a "black" on the page turn.

Remember that you can purchase one, keep it for 30 days, and return anytime within that period for a full refund. This gives you a while to download books, (free or samples) and see if you like it. Right now the K1's sell for $149 with free two day shipping, and the K2's sell for $259.

As for the screen size....I'm a quick reader and have no problems with it.

Now, if you are talking graphs, or textbooks, you may want to look at a bigger screen, (DX) or one of the many other readers available.

Good luck with whichever one you choose!
