I haven't found this to be true. Hmm.. well, actually I had all my books in lots of subdirectories (author name). I'll do some tests.
Test 1: 387 books in lots of author folders
Time from disconnecting USB to library screen: 40 seconds
Test 2: 387 books in lots of author folders, inside another folder
Time from disconnecting USB to library screen: 40 seconds
Test 3: 45 books in lots of author folders
Time from disconnecting USB to library screen: 14 seconds
Nope. It's number of books, not whether they're inside one subfolder or lots.
Where that does make a difference is in dictionary look-up. Dictionaries should be 'loose' in the ebooks folder, and all other books should be in sub-folders. This cuts down the time for a dictionary look-up enormously, as, incredibly, it searches the top level folder for dictionaries on every look-up.
