No, you are incorrect. Format shifting - which includes ripping a CD which you've perfectly legally bought - is currently a copyright violation in the UK. The government has been saying for a while that this is an outdated anomaly which needs to be corrected, and now they are doing so. Of course, nobody is ever actually prosecuted for ripping their own CDs, but the fact remains that doing so is technically illegal.
