Um... Except, of course, for the ones who are best-selling authors. Like Weber, and Flint, and Bujold, and Ringo (to name just a few who have hit the NYT best-seller list in recent years; there are others). Sure, they probably aren't commanding the advances and royalties seen by the folks who hit the very top of the best-seller list (except, perhaps, for Weber who's made it to #2 or #3 IIRC -- which I may not). But they certainly have authors who are "best-selling" in the normal sense of the word.
