No, I agree with you.
In the "old days", I used to use a 16pt font for "normal" text in an RTF file for the Reader. The "12pt" font setting in BD
definitely produces text that's larger than that. That's why I've now "standardised" on "10pt" in BD for my books, which I reckon is the equivalent of about 14pt in RTF.
I wonder if it's because the Reader "scales down" font sizes in RTF from A4 to its screen size, whereas the fonts in an LRF are a "real" size?
