Sorry, Ralph, you misunderstand me. I am well aware of the fact that the original pre-1923 magazines are in the public domain. My question is whether a modern scan of that magazine is
also automatically in the public domain. Under UK law, for example, a scan would probably have its own 25-year "typographical copyright".
