I just had an epiphany:
I've started knitting squares to be assembled to form a bed cover (all the while surfing MR ) and am right now (well in about a minute) finishing the first of those squares, so I thought (in English, which is not that frequent): "I'm almost done with square one". (see how I managed to fit 4 parenthesis in 3 lines?)

Square one...could the expression "being at square one" come from quilting? Or is it from Snakes and Ladders?
