my son has been there numerous times, he was in a unit that had duties that prevented him from telling us when he went and for how long. we are just getting some of his stories, and know that some we will never be able to hear. he was hit be several IEDs on several occasions, shot a few times, once point blank (yep the body armour does work!) and had many more very close encounters.
he acknowledges that there is absolutely no logical reason that he is still walking this earth, and I thank all the powers that be and stars in the heaven that he is.
