Similar to Connect books, they are used for cross-links (references) and look like underlined text. They can be selected with joystick.

Oh, OK - those are the "hyperlinks" you get when you use the "Note/Link" feature in BookDesigner, are they? It never occured to me that they were "buttons" - I've always just thought of them as being hyperlinks!
