One thing I've read recently about Lithium-Ion batteries in general is that if you continuously top them off, then after a while they can start to lose calibration with their battery meter. It's related to the battery technology, not any specific device.
Most of the sites I've seen say that topping off is the best thing for prolonging the overall life of the battery, but that every 30 recharges or so you should do a full discharge/charge cycle. That will supposedly help to keep the meter calibrated with the battery.
I think what iRex is saying is that if the meter does get severely out of calibration, it may take up to 5 - 10 full discharge/charge cycles to recalibrate it.
I don't know if that's exactly what is going on, but it does seem to fit.
