Ghost is worth every cent it costs. It has saved my neck (and other parts too) many a time. Hard disks are nice but not forever.

I have also been burned by multisession CDs and DVDs. Sometimes they just get their little brains and directories scrambled. USB sticks are more reliable IMHO.

I have found that the best method for me is to keep the system and program files on one disk and to keep all of my data files on other disks. For example, all books are on a hard disk that I picked up from CompUSA. It was the cheapest hard disk that they carried and it is still many times larger than I feel I need.
