I've been using OmniPage 15 for about a week. I found it slightly more accurate than Finereader Sprint 6, and the automated workflows are great once you've set them up. I also found that that at 400 dpi it will correctly identify em dashes (at 600 dpi it simply skips them).
For my purposes, its tendency to combine one-line paragraphs with the following paragraph is simply unacceptable. It can throw off the author's intended meaning and is hard to spot. Imagine the confusion that results when the dialog from one character is combined with the reply from the next.
The latest version of OmniPage may have this issue solved, but without a trial version I'll never know.
Right now I'm testing FineReader 10 Pro and it seems to do everything I need. Like OmniPage, it can automate tasks, strip headers and footers, and save to RTF without excessive formatting. I also like being able to proof the text while viewing the image. Unlike OmniPage 15, it does all this without annoying quirks and crashes.
Looks like a winner. Now I just need to grit my teeth and break out my credit card.
