Voted yes. I wouldn't recommend for everyone, but most of my friends would be happy with it. In fact I've just recommended it to a friend because I think it would fit well with his personality and reading habits. It's a solid, simple to use reading device, and not necessary for the less-techy crowd. Amazon has made it simple for users to purchase Kindle content.
I bought it for a reason, and I enjoy using it. And if I don't like it anymore I'll pass it on until it ends up in the hands of someone who does. I don't want to turn into a fanboy or something that loves and hates things for no other reason than being different or part of a minority group. It's already too popular for that
