By the way, Roofie, I have a feeling that your librarian friend might well have been shown a demo model of the PRS-505 which wasn't properly charged. The USB cable which comes with the 505 and is supposed to charge the device is all-but useless (in spite of an optimistic reading on the battery charge icon). I had problems similar to those you described before I bought a mains charger. Since then the machine has worked like a dream with never a single problem.

I wonder what appeal Barnes & Noble's new 'Nook' e-reader (launched net week) might hold for our pals Down Under. Same price as the Kindle but with a much broader reading source base and a few (superfluous?) refinements like being able to see covers in full colour. Don't know if it's wifi facility extends to Australia yet, but I don't think Kindle's does either.
