i have code stuff starter already installed so i used that and found an entry called "eBook Library Launcher" in the registry so i disactivated it, and then i killed the currently running process. i changed all the file names back to the way they were and plugged it back in (eleventy times. ) : woot !! no ebook library, nor error message ! in theory this should hold even after i reboot the pc, i'll let you know if it manages to come back by itself. thank you, bob !

good idea for future reference, i suppose i could make a copy of notepad launch or something...

on the down side, this erratic usb connection is getting SERIOUSLY annoying. i never had this problem with the 700. i think i might even end up trying to exchange my 600 once they finally arrive in france. we'll see how that goes...
