Mutt does compile without problems, but I think there's too much keyboard activity for it to be usable with the virtual keyboard.

Inside a terminal, won't the keyboard run fine with the terminal application passing the keystrokes over to the mutt inside?
And, with a good readline set of bindings for the harware keys for one's typical email VIEWing session, mutt could be just the reader to use.
