I've never really noticed any lighting-based oddities on my jetBook, until today. I had the car window half open, and the shadow of the glass-air boundary fell across the middle of the screen. The bottom half was faintly green and slightly dimmer. Otherwise, I've always been able to find a reading position with only minor movement that stopped any glare or contrast problems.
nb to pedants: Yes, if you insist on reading with only a single badly placed spotlight, with inadequate room background lighting you can come up with glare and eyestrain. A baker also recently lamented to me the lack of good bagels in his area. I told him his destiny was in his own hands. It took him a minute.
