I only just ordered my K2 (first e-reader) after the price drop last week, so have only had it a few days. I wasn't aware of the low price of refurb K1s when I ordered it, if I'd known I'd have been sorely tempted to get a K1 instead of a K2. I've still been tempted to get a backup, on the theory that the $149 is SUCH A DEAL!
But after thinking about it, I don't think I am going to. I don't use my K2 in especially hazardous conditions, and if something did happen to it, my suspicion is that there will be new technology coming from Amazon early next year, and I'd rather buy that (I chose not to get the $65 insurance policy).
The prospect of new tech, and the failings of the current one are really my reason for holding back--I think I'd like the large page size of a Kindle DX for at home reading, but I'm not willing to give any more of my hard-earned bucks to Amazon for reading hardware until they give me a user-friendly way to use folders to organize my books!!!! So I am holding off for an upgrade to the Kindle DX. Though if they came out with a Kindle 3 I might be tempted into it if there was some really fantastic feature (though I can't even think of what that would be, offhand).
Sounds like there is some promise in the B&N reader reports and possibly others, but I expect to get a bit locked into always having some form of Kindle around thanks to the DRM'd books I'm buying from Amazon.
