No reason we can't have dedicated readers and multi-function devices. Everyone has their own needs.

For work I'd rather have one tablet I can read and annotate academic books/articles on, keep my calender and contacts, check e-mail etc. vs. having to have a reader and a PDA etc.

Others just want a simple reader, and that's fine. I love my Kindle and would probably keep it around for leisure reading even if I get a tablet device that fits my work needs.
