In the cantina fronting the United Front for Fascio-Imperial Interest and trad Organization, the manager was setting up for the day. He had swept the dirt floor into a pleasing swirly pattern and redistributed the dirt and oil on the glasses. He opened the shutters to let the ligh filtered through the grimy windows in, making the interior that "just right" grey. He had taken the table cloths off the tables and shook them out so that they were merely grungy and not grugy and littered with glass and bread crumbs.
Sighing, he looked around. It was about as good as it would ever get. "For this I want to le Cordon Bleu?" he muttered to himself. inevitably, the last task was at hand. He always hated this part of his day. He had to awaken the owner and let her know that they were open for business.
Walking to the back corner he stood in front of the pedesalled cage with the name plate under it that read, "Montbretia Quincux the Sixth." Taking a deep breath, he pulled the covering cloth off.
"BEEP! BEEEEEEEP! Beeeeeep! Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep!" said Montbretia Quincux the Sixth, known as "Croc" to her friends. Which meant that everyone in the world called her "Trouble."
The wax in the manager's ears started to dribble out. "Good morning, ma'am. Everything is ready for starting the day."
"Beeeeep! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! BEEEEEEEP!"
"Yes, ma'am. The tablecloths are all suitably beer stained and all the blood from last night has been swept up."
"Beeeep! Beep! Beep! Beep!"
"I have ordered a new keg of beer and the cases of rum were dropped off last night."
"BEEEEP!"
"No, ma'am. The local cat infestation has still to be dealt with by the authorities. I believe we are going to ahve to spend a bit more in bribe money to accomplish that task."
"Beep!"
"While that might actually improve the quality of meat we serve to our customers, I doubt that we could catch enough of the little beeps to serve our purposes."
"Beep!"
"The traffic to and from the Fascisti and Imperials was at a minimum last night. They seemed to be out on a 'mission' for most of it."
