Thirded! (Side note: I've had a 500 for almost 3 years, a 505 for about 2, and a 300 for 1.5 months, all are used regularly, and all are still in fine shape! Not sure if I'm available tho.

I'd go for a 505 ($200 at Target if you can find one) or even a 300 if he's that careless. The 300 is a bit smaller and sturdier, may resist abuse a bit better. But,
he should get a new Reader for
you!
