I haven't been reading with my 600 long enough to form any conclusions on battery life, but I don't do a full shutdown - just put it to sleep. I like the near instant start up when I resume reading.

So far, I've been turning pages with both buttons and swipes - whichever feels best as I'm holding the reader at the time. I have even caught myself reaching for the upper right corner of the page to turn it like I do with a pbook. I love the flexibility of not having to shift my grip just to hit a button.
