I realise this thread is quite old but I can't see that there are any new topics about this. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I've been using the Buzzwords export to epub feature recently (I can't install software at work) and I have been finding the results to be very good.
Combined with pdftodoc.com I am able to convert pdfs to docs pretty effectively with good format retention.
Also, I just tried one on the above validation and it did pass.
