If I had to guess, the battery driver is somehow getting out of whack (that's a technical term) and losing it's calibration to the battery. It sounds like what iRex is saying is that after several more charge cycles it will re-calibrate and start reporting the correct charge level again.
IMO, it sounds like a software bug in the driver that they get from their supplier. Hopefully they can get it corrected, but the driver is written by a third party, not iRex.
