I haven't tried using the 600 until it actually shuts down. I've gone to one bar remaining and then recharged it. I don't want to have it turn off in the middle of reading a book that I'm really absorbed in. At the point where the battery dropped to last bar, I had read about 1200 pages which isn't enough to satisfy me on a trip. However, if, as you say, there is a lot of juice left before it actually turns itself off, perhaps it isn't as bad as I think.

I still wonder whether using the full shutdown after reading will give appreciably more battery life.
