OpenInkpot does not show a connection message on the book reader screen, but you should see a connection message in a Ubuntu terminal when you SSH to 192.168.111.1 from your 192.168.111.2 USB connection on Ubuntu.

FWIW, I dual boot Ubuntu Jaunty and WinXP, and they both connect to the OpenInkpot release candidate with no problem. In configuring Ubuntu, I just used the GUI tools to set up a static IP connection to OpenInkpot instead of the method described in the User Guide.
