1,2,3) Mine didn't break. I believe it would break if you would use the cover and open it the wrong way on a regular basis. I just don't do things like that. I accidentally dropped it several times on the floor and on the carpet - no problems. So far I don't see any discoloration or scratches but again - I'm careful with my devices
4) Hell, yeah! If I have a choice between Kindle and paper book - I always read the Kindle version. If the book is not on Kindle - I find something else to read
