And that's why I only have my first letter on my cards. Now, there are not a lot of female names starting with an I, but it's better to keep to the last name

Yes, you miss that distinction in English. You have you, you and you. I find it weird to use the familiar form to a stranger... (but I do know plenty of parents who think their kids should use the polite form to them too. I personally find that weird...)
