Red reader in the UK

I e-mailed Sony to ask if there were any plans to sell the Red reader in the UK. The 505 was available in Red as a John Lewis (big UK department store) exclusive. I got the following reply:

Quote:
Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 04/10/2009 10.21 PM.

I am happy to see that you own the PRS505 and hope that you are enjoying the use of your reader.

Having looked in to your request further there are currently no plans to release the PRS600 in any other colours apart from the black or silver that are available. Although the PRS600 is available in red in the USA this unit will not work in the UK due to DRM restrictions.

I hope this information is of some assistance and apologise for any upset that this reply may casue. Thank you for your enquiry.
Mostly not a huge surprise, and Sony don't need to worry about me being upset. However I am assuming the US specific DRM line is nonsense?

I am hoping to pick one in NY at the end of month. If it won't work with ADE and the Sony Store (I am a gift voucher using US impersonator) then that would be a bad idea!

Anyone had any real world experiences of a US Red version working outside the US with DRM protected material?

Thanks!
