You can change the aspect ratio using the Picture | Size | Scale command.
To automate it you might want to try using batch or applescript. You might be able to find an aspect ratio automator action.
Personally, I just use the option available in the *Save A Copy As* | Split | Number of Parts. Its important to use the "save a copy as" function or else the original will not only get written over, it'll be pretty much junked. (I haven't had a chance to report that bug yet).
