So, I guess you could say I have 5,000 plus books "on" my Kindle.
Mine are actually on my devices. Most of them are converted HTML in Plucker format for my Palm OS PDA, but I've been accumulating an assortment of Mobipocket volumes as well, and have a few things in other formats.

Most recently, I've been using a Linux version of FBReader on my notebook, which displays Plucker and Mobi files, as well as ePub and a few other formats.

There are several ebook sites I check daily for new additions, and my master ebook repository on my desktop is about 15GB at this point.

One nice thing about Plucker is the ability to create "high compression" volumes using a Palm port of Zlib, with gzip equivalent compression, for about a 70% reduction in ebook size over the source dicument.
