With the best will in the world, ghere's something vital you're missing here ... Amazon and Sony are NOT publishers. They are merely manufacturers and retailers. Each in its own way limits availability of legitimately published books so that store and device are almost a closed circuit. In some cases, this may be excused by international copyright issues, in most it's purely a matter of establishing a monopoly. Neither of these comanies has the slightest say in what a publisher produces -- just in whether or not its in their newly-discovered interests (with devices tied to private bookstores) to offer it for sale in a free marketplace.
