For making jewelry. It takes a lot of silver to make a little ring or pendant.

EDIT: Just to brag a bit, but I sold a Uruguyan amethyst (12.5 carats, a big whopper) to a JEWELER at a corporate chain jewelry store in the mall last weekend! She collects gemstones and wanted it for herself. Sort of like selling ice to eskimoes?
