Thanks for the story. It makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one with those problems. I'm familiar with Ubuntu and have tried a boot CD with it just as a demo. It is a nice OS, but I am skeptical that it will be able to run all my applications. I have tons of shareware, freeware, and commercial applications. These include digital image editors, sound editors, backup programs, image viewers, and others. Just re-installing all those apps under a new operating system would be more that I'd want to tackle. MS claims that, if you start with Vista and upgrade to Windows 7, your applications will transfer. I sure hope they aren't just kidding. Also, the computer that has Vista is a notebook with a 320 GB drive. So setting it up to dual boot could chew up too much space on the HD.

This is getting a little away from the book reader, but it does relate because of the problems it creates with the Sony reader.
