Yes, you can.
If you edit your options in your UserCP:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/pro...do=editoptions
You will see there is a checkbox to "Show Avatars" under "Thread Display Options".
Alternatively, use Adblock or similar/equivalent (with whatever browser you're using) to block those elements you don't like.
