The reason I quote from the speech is because Macaulay was arguing AGAINST extending the copyright. I of course couldn't put the whole speech in my signature.
I think the current copyright's are WAY too long and would
love to see 10 years from date of publication. Of course, knowing that will never happen I would argue for 40 years from publication which is proposed in Eric Flint's excellent
Copyright: How Long Should It Be? essay.
