Something I learned a LONG time ago from a cosmetician, the Ring finger (or Wedding finger) is one of the weaker fingers and thus the one we should use when applying make-up. Accord the cosmetician, you want to use the least amount of pressure on the skin, particularly around the eyes, to keep the skin youthful.
I've been trying out Zelda's friend's suggestion of "pushing" the page (a gesture from Right-to-Left) with my thumb for the past few days. I like using it on the 600 since that way I don't encounter the frame. It is taking me a little time to get used to it as I've been using the LtoR gesture for many months, but it is seems to be a little gentler on my arthritic thumb knuckle.
