The delay in opening an LRF on the reader should only happen the first time you open it. The reader is calculating the number of pages in the LRF file, something it doesn't have to do with ePubs. The first time you open an LRF or change font sizes, the reader calculates everything and stores the information. Subsequent opening or font size changes will be very quick.

To avoid the initial delay in opening LRFs, you could use the Sony software. It'll "prepaginate" LRF files, thus allowing the files to open quickly on the reader.
