Abbyy FineReader: It might be a useful tool, if your only option is to have OCR - but as far as I could tell from the Trial I just downloaded, it fits another purpose than Snapter.

FineReader: Allows importing of pictures (Scanner, Digital Camera) and just does OCR on it -> result is OCRed text, but does not enhance original picture, so if images on that picture are curled, the output is a curled image as well, it does not flatten the image.

Snapter: Does just enhance pictures, without any OCR. So it will remove borders, rotates pictures, and flattens the image (this is the best feature :-) if you do a picture of books (at least that is promised on webpage, have not tried it yet...) -> result is a nicer/enhanced picture, which can be read more comfortable on the iLiad

Both apps can convert er output to a PDF. So I guess FineReader PDFs are much smaller - but this is not important for me :-)

So it looks like, this app, is what I dreamed for! (Only bummer: Windows only app, no Mac version...)
