Another couple of options:
There are methods to convert (even DRM-ed) Microsoft .lit files (fictionwise is a good source) to lrf, even on OS X.
Biblioskop has been the easiest method to get stuff into the main memory of the reader, though the fuse externsion and libprs500 library have both worked.
You can also use the latest beta version of GraphicConverter to convert/resize/split oversize PDF files to readable size.
I haven't found any utilities that will write to an SD Card or Memorystick directly inside the PRS-500. But you can always pull the memorycard out and put stuff on it directly (EDIT: Just saw that Scotty1024'a FUSE module will read cards as well).
If you're in any app that allows printing, you can always print/save as PDF with the correct page size set for the PRS-500. I've also seen (not personally tried) to print/save pdf directly to the PRS-500 using libprs500 and/or the FUSE library.
And all of the converter tools out there for PC work inside VirtualPC (sans Sony Connect).
And I've had no issues charging my PRS-500 directly from my iMac in its cradle. This thread is the first that I've heard of any issues charging the PRS-500 from a Mac USB port.
