I updated my firmware as soon as I received my unit.
However, I have not experienced any of the lockups. Many is a night that I'll be reading in bed, close the cover and set it on the bed beside me. In the morning, I wake up, put the reader in my coat pocket, take it to work, and during lunch, I pull it out, open the cover, continue reading the page, and when I hit NEXT, a second later, I am on the next page. No hiccups or stalls.
The only negative thing about my reader is the peeling rubber skin.
