Here's a slightly goofy idea-
I was thinking of doing a sort of (very short) spoof version of Dante's Inferno. Except instead of the Infernos of hell, the journey would be through the circles of Internet.
I can't decide whether or not this would simply be too silly to hold, but I think might do it anyway. Here's the first section- anyone who enjoyed it enough to read more, let me know and I shall be assured in the direction of continuation. Oh, and this is just something I spent ten minutes or so on, so please don't be expected actual Dante-level stuff, which I'm probably not capable of. Also, if any of you poets out there have appropriate net-themed verses of your own, I'd love to include them.
Prelude.
Tick
Tock
The tick and tock
The clock
It sings
And never stops
Tick
Tock
The tick and tock
It’s four and morning
And I need to stop
But the click
The click
My fingered mouse
I sit in the dark
Fleeing my house
Into screens of black
And blue and green
A hundred tabs
And a thousand scenes
Video spam
And Hollywood Hams
Fat chicks scream
Over the Internet stream
Wikipedia tabs
And pornographic abs
Television tropes
And blog-broadcast mopes
There’s an ocean of facts
And my eyes’ cataracts
Are growing in size
My body cries
For a little sleep
My bed is no further
Than two or three feet
But slumber brings terror
And dark memories
So I’ll stay by the web,
Dipping nachos in cheese
Wait, what’s that sound?
-From all around-
A tinkle and a twinkle
And a sprinkle of flame
After this my life
Will never be the same
Out from my browser
The face of a fox
With fur all ablaze
And eyes filled with craze
The sprite speaks
And his voice, it creaks
Like bending steal
His paw tosses a ball
Colour tinted teal
His grin’s forever yellow
And his lips never meet
And he says,
“Now, you’re not asleep
-this is quite real-
And the Internet’s waiting
To give you a treat
There’s a quest and a test
That to live you must best
So let’s not delay
And in case you were wondering,
You get no say.”
So the Fox takes my hand
And there’s the sound of a band
And before I know it I’ve been transported
To Internet-Land.
