The discussion of how many angels can dance on the head of a pin ... I mean how many units Astak will sell ... is pretty irrelevant. As a business owner who deals with warehousing and shipping, I would say that what matters is how much time you want to allocate to each inspection. Unless you have a really badly located warehouse, you can always find more workers in this economy.

Think of it this way -- unless you believe that the act of inspection is much, much longer than the act of picking, packing, and shipping, then the number of total units sold is irrelevant. If the company has the capacity to do one then they can have the capacity to do both.

So say that you spend under two minutes opening and repacking the contents. Add a minute to thoroughly inspect the device for cosmetic issues. Heck you can probably also check to make sure the unit turns on and off properly in that time as well. That's three minutes, or 20 inspections per hour. Call it 15-18 per hour because nobody works at full speed all the time unless the boss is standing on them.

Assume the person you choose to do this is paid above minimum wage -- call it $10/hr. Makes sense -- you don't need specialized skills. It's a pretty routine job. So each inspection is costing you around 60 cents. That's still less than the likely labor cost of picking the unit from a rack, transporting it to a scanning and staging area, boxing it for shipment, printing the shipping label, etc.
