Can anyone answer these questions?

Is there any 'space' between the eInk screen and the touch screen layer of the PRS-600 in which dust *can* accumulate? Or, is this just dust that got on the eInk screen *before* the application of the touch layer during assembly?

There was 'space' to facilitate the side-lighting on the PRS-700, but that 'space' has been eliminated on the PRS-600. IMO I find it incredulous that Sony would remove the side-lighting just so that any other dust problems, not caused by the side-lighting, would not be revealed!

[Afterthought] The screen image has improved after the removal of the side-lighting, so that could be *one* good reason for removing it.
