*River God* is a solid read, so you can forgive Smith if he plays a little fast and loose with historical fact. It is billed as fiction, after all. You know, it always tickles me pink when Hollywood whinges about the 'lies' told about actors in the tabloid press when they've so deliberately and blatantly distorted historical truth for coming up 100 years. Hands up all those cinema goers who now believe that William Wallace wore the kilt or that Richard the Lion Heart spoke English.
